Kingdom Hearts is a game that I picked up on a whim with my best friend. After finding out that they had a PS4, the first game we got was FFXV which left us so mentally scarred since we grew really attached to the brothers. It's not the best FFXV game, but I played it for their interactions so I enjoyed it. After that, we had no idea what else to play since nothing else could quite tug on our heart strings like that one had. We were playing Persona 5 with another friend as our trio, but she got really busy so one day I just suggested to my friend that we give Kingdom Hearts a try. With that, we both became addicted to the game. We had played other games and enjoyed it but this one is so different and holds a precious place in my heart. It's the first game to make me care so deeply for characters and really tugs at my heart strings. I know it is not the best game in existence, but for me it is my favorite game. I love all the characters, especially Sora, and would die for each of them. Except Xehanort. He has to go.
When we first started Kingdom Hearts, I was still in high school. I believe it was our senior year when we first started Kingdom Hearts, around the time when college applications were finished and we were about to get our results. I won't go into details since I don't want to, but I was having a rough time due to various reasons. Luckily, my safe haven was being with my friends and my best friend (who also was my childhood friend) lived less than 10 minutes away from me so I would always go to their house. Despite being in a slump, seeing Sora try so hard to run on smile faces despite all the hardships he faced managed to bring a smile to my own face as well. Seeing him work so hard, never giving up no matter how hard he was pushed, I found my own courage to carry on as well.
Before getting into Kingdom Hearts, I never had an "ultimate" favorite character. The only ones who had ever come close was Killua and Gon. As a pair. However, after playing the games, Sora has managed to take that spot. I love that, even though he suffers through so much, he still tries to smile and stay positive. He still lends his support and help to those who need it and, while he's not perfect, he can understand and empathize with the feelings of others. That's why...it has to be him. The game had managed to make me feel so emotionally invested in a character that just seeing him sad makes my soul hurt so. One day, I hope that he'll be able to take a breather from all this pain and let loose with his friends. I want to see him smiling with everyone else and I want him to be able to go back to the home and friends he has been working so hard for- the thing he cherishes so dearly.
